Create a template
Step 1 — Upload the document
- Go to Templates → New template.
- Upload the PDF you want to turn into a template. The same upload rules apply as for envelopes: PDF only, maximum 25 MB.
- Give the template a name (e.g. Standard NDA, Offer Letter v2). This is the name that appears in your template library and in the send flow.
Step 2 — Define signer roles
Instead of real people, templates use roles — placeholders you assign fields to.
- On the Roles step, click Add role.
- Give the role a descriptive name (e.g. Employee, Hiring Manager, Counterparty).
- Add as many roles as the document requires. Most templates have one or two.
The order of roles here does not determine signing order — you set that at send time.
Step 3 — Place fields
The field editor works the same way as for one-off envelopes, with one difference: the signer selector shows your role names instead of real people's names.
- Select the role in the palette on the left.
- Click a field type and click on the document to place it.
- Repeat for every role.
Every role must have at least one Signature field before you can save the template.
Step 4 — Save
Click Save template. The template is stored to your account immediately and appears in the Templates list.
Editing a template
You can edit a template's fields and roles at any time from the Templates list. Click the ··· menu on any template and select Edit.
Versioning
Each time you save edits to a template, Permissio creates a new version. Envelopes sent from the template always use the version that was current at the time of send. You can view version history from the template's ··· menu → Version history.
