The signing ceremony
The signing email
When you send an envelope, each signer receives an email from Permissio on your behalf. The email contains:
- Your name (or your account display name) as the sender
- The envelope title as the subject
- Your optional message if you added one when creating the envelope
- A prominent Review and sign button linking to the signing ceremony
The email is sent from Permissio's delivery infrastructure. If a signer reports not receiving it, ask them to check their spam folder and, if needed, use Resend notification from the envelope detail view.
The signing ceremony UI
When the signer clicks Review and sign, they are taken to Permissio's signing ceremony — a secure, browser-based interface that shows:
- Document preview — the full PDF, paginated, with their assigned fields highlighted
- Field indicators — a progress bar or field list showing required fields remaining
- Navigation — prev/next page controls and a "jump to next field" button
Completing a Signature field
The signer can choose one of three signing methods:
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Draw | Use a mouse or touchscreen to draw a freehand signature |
| Type | Type their name and choose from a selection of signature fonts |
| Upload | Upload an image of their physical signature (PNG or JPG) |
The chosen signature is applied consistently to every Signature field in the document.
Completing other field types
- Initials — same three methods as Signature, scaled down
- Date signed — pre-filled automatically with today's date; not editable by the signer
- Full name, Text, Checkbox — standard form inputs
Reviewing before submitting
Once all required fields are filled, the signer sees a Review step showing a summary of what they are about to submit. They can scroll through the document one last time before clicking Submit.
Declining to sign
Signers have the option to Decline rather than sign. Clicking Decline prompts them for an optional reason, then notifies you by email. The envelope moves to Declined status and no further signing can occur on that envelope.
